IWFM in Facilities Management - Level 5
Distant Learning

Online Course

Overview

Level 5 Certificate and Diploma are for those who are already Facilities Managers and provides a broad understanding of facilities management for experienced operations managers who are responsible for a wide range of FM functions.

This is a challenging course which is designed to reflect the ability and skills of facilities managers to take responsibility for planning and supervising a team accountable for the implementation of fm duties. It includes taking action as well as exercising autonomy and problem-solving skills within parameters of facilities management.

Tutorials are the opportunity for learners to show their work to the tutor. In a classroom environment this usually means about 20 minutes for each person. The advantage for you is getting 3 times as much time with the tutor to go over the assessment and feedback. This is perhaps the most important phase of the programme, especially on the very first draft.

Level 5 is at HND standard and requires a learner to analyse and evaluate in their written answers. Level 5 learners are expected to be managers.

We have a rolling programme for distance learners so the next available start date would be any time after you have viewed the induction slides. Inductions are part of student recruitment policy and will inform learners of everything they need to know about the course and about IWFM. We have made these available here.

We will run this course as a distance learning programme as follows:
  • Introductory call, to say welcome you to the course and think about proposed submission dates, discuss the first piece of ”homework” i.e. only the first Learning Outcome usually with 3 AC’s – say 30 mins
  • Review and written feedback in track changes on Homework piece – say 30 mins
  • Follow up call on Homework, and to prepare for 1st Draft – usually about 1 hour
  • Review and written feedback in track changes on 1st Draft
  • Follow up call on 1st Draft and to prepare for 2nd Draft – usually about 1 hour
  • Review and written feedback in track changes on 2nd Draft
  • Follow up call on 2nd Draft and to prepare for Final submission – usually about 1 hour
  • Marking of Final submission and completing Record of Evidence Form, with notes if any AC’s not achieved (maximum of 2)

If there is a need for a re-submission, then an additional phone-call feedback is necessary as follows:
  • Follow up call as needed on 2 unachieved AC’s and to prepare for re-submission
  • Final review of re-submission and update of Record of Evidence Form
Note: it’s best to set up a call after the feedback on homework, Draft 1 and Draft 2 have been received, because It is not expected that the learner has access to the tutor at all times.

As someone working every day on fm related issues, you will achieve managerial expertise beyond what would be expected at level 4. As long as you take the Diploma and pass all 8 units at level 5, this leads to MIWFM subject to relevant work experience. See membership. These post nominal can be used after someone’s name as proof that they are a member of the leading facilities management body in UK and acquired this status by being assessed at level 5 to Diploma level.

You can of course opt for the Certificate and consider topping up to Diploma at a later stage.

The costs for Level 5: see fees and dates

IWFM registration period is two years. That is the time frame you have to complete the assessments. We will support you during this two year period, but any assessments that need to be marked beyond this period are chargeable.

Entry Requirements
